Remembering Joseph Bettencourt

Joseph Bettencourt was full of energy, heart, and passion for life. He loved skateboarding more than anything—constantly practicing new tricks, racing down the streets with his friends, and finding freedom on his board. Sports were a huge part of who he was, especially soccer. Whether on the field, at the skate park, or cheering on his favorite teams, Joseph lit up every space he entered with his love for the game.


In 2018, Joseph’s life was tragically cut short in a skateboarding accident. He was just 24 years old and left behind his two beautiful children, Killian and Marley, who continue to carry his spirit forward every day.


The Team Joseph Youth Sports Foundation was created to honor Joseph’s memory and keep his love for sports alive. Our mission is simple but powerful: to open doors for kids who might not otherwise have the chance to play. We believe every child deserves the opportunity to experience the teamwork, confidence, and joy that sports brought to Joseph’s life.


We work closely with local leagues and community programs throughout the Bay Area to provide opportunities for as many kids as possible—removing barriers so that every child can join a team, take the field, and feel the same excitement Joseph did.


Joseph’s legacy lives on in every child who steps onto the field, laces up their cleats, or picks up a skateboard for the very first time. This foundation is a promise to Joseph and his children: that his love for sports will continue to inspire and uplift the next generation.
